Two bands, two jobs. The short loop is for warming up and switching on the glutes and hips before you train. The long band is for stretching afterwards, giving you the leverage to take a hamstring, hip flexor or calf further than you can on your own. Together they cover the start and the end of every session, and they weigh next to nothing in a bag.

The short band

A fabric loop that goes around the thighs or ankles for banded walks, bridges, clamshells and squats. It's the fastest way we know to get the glutes working before a run, a lift or a game, and it's the band we hand to patients who need their hips doing more of the work. Fabric, not latex, so it doesn't roll, snap or pinch.

The long band

A strong elasticated strap with enough length to loop around a foot while you lie on your back, so you can hold a stretch with your arms relaxed instead of fighting to reach. Hamstrings, calves, hip flexors, quads, chest and shoulders. Use it after training, at the end of the day, or as a slower morning routine when everything feels tight.

How to use

Warm up: short band around the thighs just above the knees, then ten to fifteen banded walks each direction and ten glute bridges. Two minutes and the hips are awake. Stretch: long band looped around the foot, lie back, straighten the leg and hold for thirty to sixty seconds a side, breathing slowly. Never yank into a stretch. Move to the edge, hold, and let the band do the work.

Who it's for

Runners, lifters, weekend team sport, and anyone whose warm-up is currently "a bit of a jog". If you sit for most of the day, the short band is the antidote for lazy glutes and the long band is the antidote for tight hamstrings.
